Contraband (Italy 1980, dir. Lucio Fulci)
What happens when the ultimate maestro of sleazy gut-munching horror takes a break from zombies and leather-gloved slashers to create a mafia thriller? The mindbending bloody brutality of CONTRABAND is the result. Directed by Lucio Fulci (THE BEYOND, LIZARD IN A WOMAN’S SKIN), this gleefully debauched Italian crime tale has as high a splattery body count as any of his supernatural or giallo wonders. Genre stalwart Fabio Testi stars as a cigarette smuggler engaging in head-exploding, gut-blasting warfare against French mobsters who try to muscle in on his territory. Supposedly real-life Naples smugglers helped finance this production when Fulci’s original funds ran low!
